Curtis M. Hairston, Jr. is originally from Martinsville, Virginia. He graduated from Fieldale Collinsville High School in 1980. He graduated cum laude with a B.A. degree in Sociology and American History from Harvard College in 1984, and received his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1987.

Curtis began his practice with Williams, Mullen, Christian, Dobbins as an associate in 1987. He worked his way up to becoming a shareholder. He specialized in civil litigation, with an emphasis on employment litigation. Curtis regularly provided employment advice to various Fortune 500 companies.

Curtis has a reputation as an outstanding litigator. He has participated in a large number of civil jury and non-jury trials and hearings involving corporate litigation, employment, insurance defense, domestic relations, plaintiffs personal injury, criminal, traffic and construction cases. He now specializes in personal injury and employment cases.

Curtis holds memberships in the following bar organizations: Virginia State Bar Association, Old Dominion Bar Association, City of Richmond Bar Association, Virginia Bar Association and National Bar Association. Curtis is a past president of the Old Dominion Bar Association and currently serves as an elected representative to the Virginia State Bar Council. Curtis has also been affiliated with various community organizations, including the Virginia Home for Boys, Imani Intergenerational Community Development Corporation, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Elk Hill Home for Boys, and Offender Aid and Restoration.
